This was a big moment for me in #Embracing my #TrueIdentity. I had just finally MET other #LGBTQ #Youth and #Peers at Qmunity, QMUNITY Gab Youth and this was my one and only opportunity to own the streets in pure flamboyant rainbow blazing glory.
Since that parade I tried to march once and after hiding behind a BMO crew, a woman KICKED ME OUT Violently saying I was not allowed to march if I was not affiliated with any #Corporate #Sponsors…. – As IF woman, I totally understood you were doing you JOB in SAFETY and keeping things aligned by protocol….
THE GLBTQ EQUALITY MARCH WAS A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE OVER 20 YEARS AGO WITH A CLOTH BANNER AND ONE BLOCKS LENGTH IN THE WEST END OF VANCOUVER…. THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS ABOUT…………….!
However all that said, I was a passionate 18 year old that following year and YOU forbade this Prince from showing his pride in the annual opportunity to show my Pride and Sexuality not just as a human, but as a universal culture and in a city known for it quite profoundly.
That’s all, I came across this older image of me in my teens and wanted to share some background briefly about JUST ONE of my battles with being completely uncensored and openly expressive of my voice and personality PLUS (more past then present) how this correlated with my identification process (not being Gay, that was painfully obvious!) to finding a community that truly got me and validated me to “Get MYSELF!”.
“As a pure tangent, even my former Gay and now no longer with us, Michael Whitfield LET ME OFF EARLY from WORK as he scheduled me ON PRIDE DAY and this was a clear sentiment to allow me to go celebrate my identity and community.”
Let me just say it WAS NOT VANCOUVER’S GAY COMMUNITIES. —
It was Vancouver’s YOGA AND SPIRITUAL COMMUNITIES!
That’s enough said after that last remark.
Thank you deeply, I don’t think some of you realize the anchor you have helped me establish in STAYING IN VANCOUVER, to think NYC and PARSONS School for Design had offered me a 4-Year BFA Undergraduate Studies SPACE in #PHOTOGRAPHY when I was (18)! and I had deferred 1 year, tried out Kwantlen Polytechnic University and realized indefinitely my path was NOT FORMAL EDUCATION but ALTERNATIVE Continuing Studies.
#YOGA became my school of life, though, study and one that will be lifelong and never ending. FINALLY found a FULL SPECTRUM THAT DOES NOT BORE ME AFTER 1 MONTH…. 4 years and going STRONGER then ever!
